Google is the biggest Search Engine of the World, its infrastructure is getting complex and more efficient day by day. Google loves the updated content and gives higher ranks to the websites that Updates frequently. Blogging is not a part time job, Its a hobby, but it should be taken as a part time job to get better results. Bloggers should update their blog content on daily basis so that Search Engine Spiders crawl their blogs on daily basis. The best way to call search engines is to updated your content by not only posting new blog posts, but also to update or edit your older posts.
Advantages of Updating Your Old Content:
1- Updated Content:
Editing and updating older posts is not only good for Search Engines, but it is a good practice to show your readers that your full blog is up to date and it matches the current fact n figures. Placing a "Top 10 Posts" is a good way to show your content. It also gives you time to check your entire blog and blog posts for any possible grammar and spelling mistakes.
2- Page Rank Advantage:
Although pagerank is not so important for your blog, but Google still considers it and gives low priority in Search Result Ranking (SERPS). Republish your older post by updating your posts enable you to expose your blog again on your homepage and thus helps to improves your Search Result Ranking.
3- Remind Your Dead Posts to Search Engines:
I've observed that most of my blog posts gets indexed instantly, while some takes some time to get indexed. But there were some blog posts that were not indexing even they were published about a month ago. By updating and republishing my older blog posts, I observed that those dead posts got indexed in search engines quickly.
4- From Keyword Point of View:
Every keyword is not evergreen, most of the keywords changes their priority and searching trend often. Especially when your blog is about Technology, Mobiles and Gadgets niche, you'll most probably face that your keywords fly by night. It is a good practice to update your keywords even if you are not updating the content of your article/ blog post.

Rather then creating a new blog post or article from copy pasting your older posts/ articles, you should be aimed on to update your older posts. Because minor tweaks on new copy pasted blog post can be a disaster and Google will possibly penalize you for the duplicate content. It also saves your time to write a new post of any existing topic, so why do we waste our precious time when we have option to update older posts.
